Yoga and Research
As a Yoga Therapist I have been involved in some research projects looking at the efficacy of Yoga as a practice to assist with mental and physical wellbeing. This research has mainly been conducted via Deakin University. Some of the research has published results and others are still pending.
Research is a field that involves time and effort – with the goal of finding ways to assist people living with life changing health concerns and to show evidence around these treatments.
Some of the programs I have been involved in are listed below with links to published material highlighted:
Yoga for Anxiety & Depression 2019-2020 – this pragmatic trial was run over 2 cohorts and compared group and personalised Yoga and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) to CBT alone. It worked with adults exhibiting mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Personalised Yoga Therapy and weekly group classes over 8 weeks.

The HaPPi Study – Yoga for Endometriosis 2021-2024 – this 3 year, Australia wide online trial involved around 250 women randomaly assigned to one of 3 areas – Yoga, CBT or Education. I designed and delivered the Yoga Protocol for the yoga group of around 80 women (10 cohorts). The Yoga practices were designed to address and assist with the symptoms of Endometriosis. Personalised Yoga Therapy and weekly group classes over 8 weeks.

CodeEndo 2025 – an online research platform for women with Endometriosis being developed through MIRTH. Still in development stage. I have designed and recorded yoga therapy practices of varying lengths and focus. CodeEndo will utilise many modalities to assist women with this condition including dietary information, hypnotherapy, physiotherapy, mindfulness, commitment and acceptance therapy and more. Details on accessing the trial here.
Yoga for Eating Disorder Recovery 2024-2025 – development of an 8 week protocol for participants recovering from Eating Disorders and their carers. Individualised Yoga Therapy programs alongside 8 weekly group yoga classes. One cohort has been completed and a second one is pending. This is being run alongside Barwon Health ED Clinic and Deakin University.
