Global Yoga Therapy Day
Kyo Yoga & Healing
I am excited to be presenting at this worldwide event on August 14 amongst other yoga therapists – for Global Yoga Therapy Day. My presentation will be on my research findings on Yoga as an adjunct therapy to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.
There will be many speakers at this event on a whole range of yoga topics.
My presentation has come about from a research trial I was involved in 2019 with Deakin University in Geelong, Victoria. The trial examined the role of Yoga Therapy as an adjunct treatment to CBT for people with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. One of they key outcomes from this trial was the way in which yoga could assist the relaxation response in the body and allow participants to achieve better sleep and rest. As a result of better quality sleep a sense of greater wellness was experienced.

In the meantime, as part of a Community Outreach initiative I haver recorded this 25 minute practice.
Yoga for Sleep (Rest & Digest) – a short practice. This practice is designed for end of day to de-link from activity and come into a space of acceptance and letting go of stagnant energy. Conscious breath emphasis along with simple, potent postures will assist in activating the parasympathetic nervous response and calming the body and mind. When working therapeutically with the body it is important that all poses feel comfortable and easeful so please make any modifications required or work with my suggestions.
